Basic description
A2
Logger
is specifically
modeled
portable
PC with
plug-in
system
for data
acquisition, measurement
and management.
Because of its
PC
compatibility
A2
Logger
provides
high
comfort and
convenience
in application.
Accompanying
software provides
easy customization
to the new
measuring
system
environment.
The logger
has a
built-in
15 inch
TFT
monitor
which can also
easily
be separated from
the platform
and set up
somewhere else.
Keyboard and
Mouse
are
wireless.
There
can be connected
printer,
local network,
CD or
external
hard
disk,
floppy
disk,
a
USB and
RS-232/485
ports, and
many other
interfaces
on the logger.
CompactFlash
provides
the application
in an environment
with high levels of
vibration
or
in an area where
the hard drive
may not work
reliably.
Logger
is open
for a possible
upgrade with
the
spread-spectrum
radio,
GSM
mobile telephone
system
or
the
satellite
data
and
a
GPS
receiver
for precise
location and
timing
of applications
if
required.
A2
consists of three basic
components:
-
Aluminium
box with
passive
backpanel
with 8
ISA
slots and
power supply
system.
It is installed
plug-in
PC
Module
with Intel
"Core
Duo"
processor
2GHz
(or
Atom 1.3 GHz)
with 1
GB
of memory, in the
rightmost slot.
Hard
disk is a
2.5-inch,
120-GB
(250
GB option)
and is
more resistant to
vibration and
shock
than conventional
3.5
"drives.
Logger
operates using
power supply
of
220V
(120
to
260V)
but
it can be supplied
using
24V
DC
power supply
(18 to
32V)
if requested.
-
The second
integral component
is the
A
/
D
module.
It
can be installed
one of the
three types of
A
/
D
modules:
A2-28-AD,
A2-28-IS
or
A2-28-MS
in A2
logger.
All three
modules
have the
same platform
but different
"front
end".
The first model
(AD)
AD
is a
standard
module,
and the
second model
(-IS)
has a
built-in
isolation
amplifiers.
The
third type
can be installed
up to 12
isolated
signal
conditioners.
Common to
all three
boards
is that they are
instrumentation
plug-in
modules with
16 or 12
analog
input channels
that
have 12
or 16
bit
analog / digital
converter
with a
sampling
rate
of 250
KHz,
DMA
and 2K
FIFO
memory
.
In
DMA
mode,
Logger
can work
with two
AD
modules and
in this case
it has 32
analog channels.
The third and
each subsequent
A
/
D
module
in the system
when used
will not work in
DMA,
but in the
"Polling"
mode.
It
can be added
D
/
A,
digital I /
O or
counter
/
timer
modules
if the application
requires it.
All
I /
O
modules are
downloaded
from the
PC
controller
A2.
Their
specifications and
prices
are on the section
I/O
modules for A2.

The last component for A2 logger configuration is 17" TFT monitor with
220V supply (optional24VDC). Also, it can be delivered with
"Touch-Screen" monitor, 15" ili 17" TFT.
Software
Software package for A2 Logger executes data acquisition at 16 or 32
channels, continuous streaming to disk and the graphic display on the
monitor. It prints selected
signals and current events in a given window, if requested.
Monitor can display one or more channels at the same time, with 32
channels maximum.
Signal printing
is horizontal, from left to right or from top to bottom (like paper
printers).
Time of full signal viewing is set by user and it depends of needs, and can
be from one second to one year.
Any part of vaweforms can be zoomed in
after-treatment to the last LSB, in time to the thousandth of a second.
Data from the events can be recorded every minute, hour or day.
These data can be saved on a CD for archive.
The recommended operating system is Windows 2000/XP.
Using the logger has been simplified so that users who are not computer
specialists can easily use it.
It only takes a short informative training.
Unauthorized users can not enter the system setup, but this is only
possible by authorized users with passwords.
If the user
wants
to write
his own software
for
A2
Logger,
the software
drivers are
available for use.
Electronic Design has a library of software drivers and software support
in the form of finished software packages for graphical programming.
With the system, 32-bit software drivers for ED-Link
for C (DOS), C + + and Visual Basic for Windows 2000 are delivered.
Using these drivers, developer is relieved of the
need for detailed knowledge of hardware systems.
As an alternative to software drivers, there are menu-controlled
software packages for graphic programming applications.
User, depending on the purpose and cost, can choose a package that he wants
to use.
These are the
LabVIEW (National Instruments) and
LabWindows/CVI
(C for Virtual Instrumentation), used by many
traditional users.
The mentioned software packages for graphic programming applications
allow users to develop their own applications without writing
conventional code, for a very short time.
Applications are created by drawing a diagram of
flows, with the help of ready-made functional blocks, combining a
professional screen display with a variety of tools for data
acquisition, measurement and process control.
Ordering A2 logger has three steps: the selection processor, the
selection of A / D module and the range of options.
